Nicholas Meregali: Early Life and Introduction to Jiu-Jitsu

Born on May 27, 1994, in Santo Antônio, a municipality in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, Meregali’s introduction to jiu-jitsu was somewhat unconventional. His younger brother, who was the first in the family to start training, would often practice his newly learned jiu-jitsu moves on Nicholas. Intrigued by the martial art, Meregali joined the ACJJ academy in Santo Antônio at the age of 16.

Under the guidance of instructor Jeferson Adan, Nicholas Meregali ‘s grappling genius began to reveal itself. He won many important titles at a state level and a Brazilian National title as a blue belt. Recognizing the need for a more competition-driven atmosphere with higher-level training partners, Meregali relocated to Porto Alegre, his state’s capital, to train full time under the supervision of Mario Reis, one of the most accomplished athletes ever produced in the south of Brazil.

Meregali’s success in the sport’s top tournaments led to his black belt, awarded by both Reis and Adan in December 2016. He has since continued to dominate the competitive circuit. Currently he trains under John Danaher out of New Wave Jiu Jitsu

Nicholas Meregali is a highly accomplished Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt. He has won numerous championships, including the IBJJF World Championship and the Pan American Championship. In 2022, he placed second at the ADCC (Abu Dhabi Combat Club) Championship.

In 2023, Nicholas Meregali won the IBJJF Pan Championship. His performance at these competitions has solidified his reputation as one of the top competitors in the sport. His preferred techniques include the Lasso Guard and DLR Guard, and he competes in the Peso Pesado weight division (94.3kg/195.0 lbs).
